I usually work on the floor when I use oil sticks, the same way I made drawings when I was little. The methods, materials, and palette are very basic and immediate; they allow more spontaneity and physicality than oil paints. I use oil sticks when I need a break from the technical pressure of painting.

The use of white as a way to explore space and emotion came mainly out of my oil stick drawings. As a child, the white of the paper always seemed welcoming to me, and I want to generate this sense of expectation and excitement in the finished work.
